2 Session Course: Monday 12th and 19th November, 10:30am to 1:00pm
Inspiration derives from the beautiful checked knitting patterns used throughout the nineteenth century in the Scottish border area of Sanquhar, near Dumfries. Originally worked on very fine needles and a smooth yarn to show off the design perfectly, Sanquhar check was traditionally worked in two contrasting colours. This workshop will provide an expert introduction and refresher course in two colour knitting.
Monday 12th November, Part 1 – We will use ancient Sanquhar knitting charts to introduce the stranding or Fairisle technique. After discussing yarns suitable for felting, you will learn how to felt your knitting at home.
Monday 17th November, Part 2 – Using felted knitting from the previous week, we will cut, assemble and embellish 3 different decorations with ribbon, buttons, wire and simple embroidery stitches.
The tutor will be Janice Anderson, a well established freelance knitwear designer and tutor. Janice teaches workshops around the UK and Northern Ireland. Her design work features in Rowan publications for whom she has also been a design consultant. Read more about Janice on her blog and on Ravelry.
Students will supply their own knitting needles, we will specify the size on booking.
