Here is a stack of cloth waiting for wet finishing. The ones at the top were handwoven on the thread controller loom and the lower ones on a floor loom.
Quite a mixed batch. I will wash some quite heavily to get some differential shrinkage between the fibres – some fibres such as the wools will shrink more than others such as the silk and cotton. Others I’ll wash just enough to get the spinning oils out of the yarns.
It is always an excitement to discover how the finished cloth will be. There is usually quite a difference, both in handle and in dimensions between the press and post washed items.
