Walking on Broken Glass

When the lawnmower threw up a stone and broke a glass door panel, did we rush for the dustpan? No, we, that is Jonty & I, rushed off separately and returned clutching cameras. It was such a beautiful bright pattern. I was inspired to use it as background to a piece I did for the Association of Guilds of Weavers Spinners & Dyers‘ Exhibition in 2008. I wove several pieces in a satin derivative called Walking on Broken Glass after Annie Lennox’s eponymous song.

This is a cotton warp and wool weft, woven in a satin damask.

Can you see the footsteps?

  1. There should be a ‘like’ button on this site as I really like the inspiration for this piece and yes, I can see the footprints! Also makes me think of the Hazel O’Connor hit ‘Beyond the breaking glass’ hit she had from the 1980 film ‘Broken Glass’. Now that takes me back a bit!
