Learn the relaxing and fascinating skill of handspinning using a spinning wheel, in a two day workshop designed for complete beginners.

 

Day 1 How a spinning wheel works, spinning commercially prepared wool into yarn, plying and skeining.

Day 2 follows and builds on skills learnt on Day 1. Use hand carders to prepare wool, spin into yarn. Demonstration of different techniques with focus on achieving consistent yarn.

The lead tutor is Christina Chisholm from Ross-shire. A highly experienced handspinner, Christina dyes and weaves her handspun yarns into exquisite scarves and wraps. Christina will be assisted by expert spinner Norman Chisholm. With two tutors, students will enjoy plenty of individual attention to help them learn this very particular skill. Participants are limited to four.

Fee: £180 per student: includes all equipment, materials, refreshments and a light lunch.
