Starting with four cones of 2/16 mercerised cotton yarn, white, ecru, silver grey, slate grey, six combinations of pairs of colours are possible in the warp.
In the woven piece, from the left, white with ecru, white with silver grey, white with dark grey, ecru with silver grey, ecru with dark grey and silver grey with dark grey.
Woven as a layered double weave with two pairs of weft colours, starting with the ones in the warp, with a twill weave on the top layer. Each pair woven four different ways in two inch stripes. Each pair of weft colours produces twelve different colour combinations.
Using only the original four colours achieves 24 combinations of colours. Adding another eight extra pairs of weft colours produces a total of 120 colour combinations.
